Holiday (in the) Park, with a View

Our new life is turning out to be a blessing. It affords us the luxury of deciding where we wake up every morning. We also have a lot of control over our immediate scenery, ie the view. When you have an opportunity to pick a view, might as well pick a good one, right? Pick one with good company and it’s even better.

The opportunity presented itself in August after we sold the house and got settled into the RV. My parents have been avid campers my whole life. They have been through the tent, popup, camper, and even bigger camper stages. For the past 8 years, a nice 5th wheel and Ford F-250 Power Stroke have been their setup. They are both in their 70’s, retired, and would spend several month each year in their 5th wheel.

Unfortunately, my mother became ill about 3 years ago. That ended their traveling adventures completely. As my mother has slowly recovered, we talked to them about camping again. It’s what they really wanted to do. Three years was too long for them to not be camping. This summer, she recovered enough to finally be able to get into and out of the trailer. Yeah to her for her hard work in rehab!

Also, sitting for three years had taken its toll on their equipment. They needed to get the 5th wheel back into shape, replace tires, and have the truck worked on. They spent August getting everything back into working order and agreed to join us in September for two weeks at Holiday Park in Benbrook, Texas.

My mother, who knew this park well, strongly recommended campsites 74 & 75. I made the reservations for those two spots. WOW! These two campsites are secluded, on the water and afforded a great view of the lake. There are no other campsites visible from this location. There is an oak tree with a trunk 6 feet in diameter and limbs spanning over 70 feet each direction. It’s one big tree and it is right between our RV’s. Nice!

We spent a great two weeks hanging out with my folks, alternating cooking meals, and enjoying ourselves immensely. Here are some photos showing what a splendid little jewel Holiday Park can be.
